Doctrine of Signatures:

Nature’s

Hidden Clues

Paracelsus was a chemist who developed the Doctrine of Signatures, a theory suggesting that the appearance of certain crops resembling human organs is a sign from God that they are beneficial to those corresponding body parts.

To introduce his ideas, I created a booklet that explores his studies on food and medicine, using visual language to depict food in a way that mimics the shape of body parts.

I chose mulberry paper and transparent paper as materials to emphasize the resemblance between organs and food, allowing layers to reveal their connections visually.

Additionally, I created an introductory video for the booklet, focusing on the morphing of organs into food visuals to reinforce the concept in motion.
